My neighbor who fishes with me wantrs to cvatch a truly BIG FISH. I was thinking a big drum might do the trick. Anyone know of a place on either Bull Shoals or Norfork where there are drum. What kind of bottom would I be looking for - point or hump or??

I've caught drum out of the white near Turkey Bottom off CR1
You can forget about drum on Norfork, Na3vy. I believe I have caught two there in the last 20 years or so. I get them quite often on Bull jigging in 30-40 feet on both points and shorelines. I usually catch them in the Summer while jigging with spoons for walleye. The problem is they are always accidental and I don't think there is a way or a place where you can count on catching them. Plus, if you think a 5-15 pound fish is really big, then I guess a drum would do. If you want a really big fish (20+ pounds or better), I believe you'd be better going after catfish. There are also some big 30+ pound stripers in Bull now but going after those things is a bit of a needle in the haystack operation. For some reason, they seem to catch most of the big stripers in the Missouri part of Bull.

Ah, so. Probably why I don't catch many of the critters, d2. All the one's I've caught have been on lures. The only time I use bait extensively is using shad at night when I am fishing with the net. I never have caught one on shad though. Guess they feed during the daytime and sleep at night.

Sounds like a win-win for Na3vy though, fishing with crawdads. If he doesn't catch a big drum, he might just catch a big cat.

Can’t help him on clear water lakes. Gotta get some mud between your toes if you wanna catch a bunch of drum.
