Fields north of Barton on Hwy. 1

  1. Went to Barton yesterday and noticed some fields along the east side of Hwy. 1 a few miles north of Barton that looked to be planted in turnips.. Does anyone know if thats what it is and is it a commercial crop.. Looked to be several hundred acres.. I just couldn't tell for sure what it was..

I believe they're planted in radishes. Their big taproot is intended to penetrate the soil hardpan and do the work of subsoilers for less cost. I think this is the first year around there that it's been tried.

  3. Thanks for the reply.. I was trying to drive with one eye and check out the fields with the other..
