Was cutting wood yesterday and cut some slabs off of an old stump with the idea of maybe using them with my euro mounts. Haven't done anything yet but set my horns on there to see what it looked like. I'm torn. Don't know if I like it or not. Give me your honest opinions. Do you think this looks good at all? If so, do you like it raw like this or do you think it would look better really cleaned up, lacquered, stained etc.

Truoil, it will bring out the grain. I would put some of that on there for sure, make it pop. It's used for gun stocks and such.

Looks good! A cross section from a cypress or Bois de Arc would look great as well!

Sweet buck. That wood is cool too. I have made several mounts for skulls over the years. I like to have them where the head is tilting up in a more natural position. Here are a couple that I did. One sits on a table or whatever, and the other version can hang on the wall.
