I use 180 gn Speer Grand Slams in my 300 Weatherby. It slams deer to the ground and doesn't bloodshot a lot of meat, never have caught one. In 30-06s My son and I shoot 165 gn Speer SBTs. They hammer the deer. Most just drop. They do bruise some meat. Never have caught.one yet. In my 35 Whelen I shoot 225 gn Sierra Game kings. They hammer deer and you can almost eat up to the hole. I caught one a few years ago that went length wise through a 10 point. And it looked like a corelokt commercial.

outlaw state bullets(house springs, mo) 308 240gr round nose hollow point or hawk bullets(hawks bridge, nj) 250 gr round nose--either will expand at even subsonic velocities, these are custom made bullets that require handloading.

And none of those are expensive, just accurate, reliable, & effective. I can remember bitching about expensive high performance bullets being $1/bullet not that long ago. Now some of them are nearly $2/bullet. The manufacturers have done a great job of convincing lots of folks that Cor-Locts, Game Kings, & HotCores aren’t enough bullet for 100-150 lb whitetails. BUT, if they think they need them to improve their game, they should go for it.
