Only legal with a commercial license in certain spots. If I read correctly, they are legal on the Arkansas river.

How does a slat trap work?

Similar to a perch trap...box type trap made of wooden slats,with a cone shaped throat that funnels the fish into the trap with no way out. Throw in some cheese bait.

Season starts Oct 1st, ends last of May, I think. Works really well when you are fishing the right spot with the right bait. I have used them several years ago in Millwood. We used either cotton seed cake, funk nasty cheese bait stuff we ordered, or a funky soured chops beef blood nightmare mixture my step dad came up with. That stuff was awful. You can catch some good eating sized fish with them.

Deep holes work good. Bait with cheese. Fill the traps. I've seen them full of flatheads in the right places.

I think your supposed to use them in rivers or where there's running water. Don't think they work very good in ponds or lakes.

Johnson's Net and Twine on hwy 5 in cabot has cheese and hoop nets (fiberglass and metal). These nets are top of the line what ya want if you're serious about gettin fish and they've been there over 30 years so ya may have already heard of em.

$12.50 for license tags. Johnson is good to deal with. His SIL lives in Des Arc.
