Might have caught their dog.

If one of my traps caught some dog, I wouldn’t want the dog’s owner having my address. I’m not sure what ID he had on his tag, or what AR requires, because I just trap my own land and don’t use ID tags. I know some states only require a trapper’s license # on the tag.

Caught this mangy male and pretty female in remake sets from the previous coyote catches a couple of nights ago. Remade again and had added one the other day within 10 feet of one of them. Worked on it all day, removing some out of the way traps to hopefully be more efficient with time and got a few more in the ground.

All I put on my tags is my id number. After looking closer at the ribbon he tied to my trap he left a note saying I’m lucky he didn’t throw my trap in the creek for catching his dog. Unfortunately for him he went bragging about what he did to the wrong person saying traps don’t belong in the mountains and they let me know who it was. I contacted the warden and he’s handling it now.

I set a bait bucket a week ago with a camera on it.
Pictures showed at least 3 coons and 1 skunk hitting it regularly, so I set some DPs yesterday.
Here’s what I found this morning.

I’m now remembering how hard it is to “un-smell” skunk 🦨

Haven’t updated in a while. I’ve been trying to keep a few dirt holes set. Between the short days (busy working) and the rain it’s been tough keeping sets good. That being said we’ve managed to increase totals to 7 Yotes, 5 fox, 2 bobcat, and 1 skunk all from dirt holes. A few possum and coons from DP’s.

Got out early this am and spent a couple hours adding some more dirt holes and resetting some that had recent catches. I’ve got a dozen good dirt holes ready again. Hopefully will have some good pics tomorrow.

Question for y’all on marking sets. All my
Stuff is on my own private ground. No need to conceal anything. I thought about getting some white clothes pins or regular close pins with a little flagging to clip on a branch near the sets. Right now I’m just remembering where my sets are. So far I haven’t lost or forgotten any but as I catch and move sets I’m sure I’m going to lose one.
Will a little flagging / marking near the set alarm yotes ? I know for bobcats flagging is actually an attractant.

Don’t bother them a bit. I use orange flagging when snaring, or if I’m setting a bunch of traps. I tie it high to a limb. Also got some clothes pins with reflective tape on them for marking sets if you have to check them in the dark before work.

I use and like Onx but man that map can get busy with a bunch of traps. All my sets are on or very near our roads and trails. A physical marker would be lots handier.

An old school notebook with hand drawn maps can help you keep track as well. I'm not sure I'd want to do it for hundreds of sets but just one property or two and only a few dozen traps it shouldn't be too hard. Plus it's not bad insurance if something happens to you and someone else has to run/take up your line.

I use onx for alot of stuff but for marking sets avenza is the only way to go.

We’ll last night was horrible. Only slight chance of rain when I did my sets yesterday am. By the evening the “slight chance” turned into 1/4”. Frustrating. The rain really messes up my sets. I haven’t been using pan covers. I guess I should use some wax paper which would prolly help them from mucking up in the rain. They’ll still be fine for a day or two but as it dries the pan tension will climb.

I’ve got a 10 on block of paraffin wax and was planning to make some wax dirt which would help a lot. Dirt has never got dry enough to make it up.
