I have a 5 year old running dog thats in the past couple months has gotten to where he cant run no time without just gasping for air and breathing as hard as Ive seen a dog breath. He will stay on the track but may get 15-20 minutes behind other dogs and when I catch him he just lays over in the dog box.

Has he lost any weight during this time? How long does it take him to recover?
I would be really concerned about heartworm disease, fungal infection in the lungs or possibly a foreign body migration to the lungs. These would be the more common issues with a running dog.
I think you need to make an appointment with your veterinarian for an evaluation as soon as possible.
Please keep us up to date on what they find out about your dog

Thanks for replying. Sometimes it has taken up to an hour or so for his breathing to go back to normal. He has lost some weight during this time. He has done this the last 9-10 times I have hunted him.

We better get him looked at ASAP. The things you have told me are very concerning about his health.
    Keep us posted
