So this new AGFC rule has given me a good excuse to get a new rifle. Brief online research has me leaning towards the .450 bushmaster. What do you guys think?

These are silly questions and answers. The answer is 360 BuckHammer. There’s a lot of ballistics and such that make it that way. 45 is still waaaaaaay to big to be shooting a deer without a really good reason, pistol rounds suck, case heads can only be so small without being a completely new cartridge family, nothing smaller than 30cal, blah blah blah etc etc etc. the answer currently is 360 BuckHammer and there really isn’t a close second. The 350 L is way back there somewhere in second probably.

A lot of that popularity has to go hand in hand with the popularity of the MSR platform. The 360 just has too many things going for it with the way most straight wall regs are written, and the design being 30-30 based. They really screwed up with the inability to rechamber 30-30’s, but that might be a safety issue with the fore thought of making high pressure loads for 360 that would blow up old 30-30’s. I see this round having some serious staying power after it’s gets some more exposure.

While I think there's no point to a straight wall cartridge season in Arkansas, I'll carry the 45/70. It'll make zero difference to the herd if it accounts for a deer in October or November. I got some Fort Scott rounds that are supposed to tumble on impact. That'll be interesting to see
