I've got a full in now and also have a modified choke. Which would be better for an 870 with a 26" barrel and 3" shells.

I've been shooting a full choke all these years and haven't had much problem with it. I guess im looking for the difference of full chokes and a modified one? Modified better for up close in the kill zone shots etc??
  6. The Mod. will spread out faster and is better for hunting over decoys and up close in the timber.. I only use full if I'm hunting a rice field or goose hunting..

I was always under the impression that with steel shot the mod choke gave you a full pattern and the improved choke gave you modified. My benelli full choke says no steel shot.

That being said, I use the improved choke in the timber.

Shoot both of them on paper and see which one you like better. I never take the full out of my gun.

I normally kill my limit with a mod in my 870 before I'm out of shells :thumb:
