Is the trapping as good when its really cold? Do foot traps freeze up?

It depends on what you are trapping for. For land critters like fox, coyote, and bobcat I think the trapping gets better the colder it gets provided your sets are freeze proofed.
I layer the bottom of my trap bed with peat moss then cover the trap with peat moss and then put a very light layer of the surrounding dirt on top of that to blend it. It will work for several days as long it doesn't rain in freezing and thawing conditions.

Coons tend to den up when it gets real cold.
