I was sitting in my truck, in town, but at the edge of town, talking to my boss on the phone the other day. There is a small grassy/wooded area behind one of our new buildings. Bear in mind this is less than a mile from one of the better managed trophy deer leases around here. The sun came out from behind a cloud and illuminated one of the most beautiful massive long tined racks I have ever seen, less than 50 yards away. He was bedded down and slightly quartering away. All of my ethics went out the window in a flash. I was clawing at the passenger seat for the .300 Winmag that wasn't there. I knew then I would have to pull it off with the Buckmark .22. I came to my senses before I dug it out and grabbed the bino's instead. Upon closer inspection it was just a clump of bushes and brown grass of some sort. I then realized then I had set my phone down, with him still on it. I finished the call with the boss, and he was on the way there, so when he got there I walked him to my truck and pointed out the deer and it fooled him too! Crazy!!
