A lot of people just walk around and jump shoot deer. My only advice would be to get in a tree and climb high! It is ridiculous the amount of non legal bucks that we find that were left to rot because people don't know what they are shooting at.

Any of you all ever hunted on one of these Sweet 16 areas with their APR's? Maybe not for some but chasing them thru the woods with a tape measure to see if they meet the 15/18 spread or beam regs is tough on old folks. But one of the main reasons I have seen this on these permit hunts you have folks coming in to these area from places that a deer under that is the biggest thing they ever seen. For many folks I have talked to from other areas just a standard legal buck is a deer of a life time compared to what normally considered a dandy.

90%+ of the time a mature buck will meet the requirements.

I think that is the point of having the sweet 16 WMAs. They are trying to have a few places around the state that are managed for bigger bucks. They want you to pass the border line bucks that may or may not be legal so they will get another year older. If a person is just wanting to kill a 15" wide 8pt maybe a sweet 16 area is not where that person needs to be hunting. Every year I, as well as others I know, find multiple deer left because they don't meet the requirements. If you are not sure you don't need to shoot...

For instance...... I had this buck at 10 yards Thursday evening. Is he legal?? If so, not by much. If he lives to next year there will be no doubt he is legal, and I believe that is the thought process behind the sweet 16 WMAs.
