Got there about 5:15 and there were close to 60 trucks so we left and headed East.. Got to float road on Cache and counted 30+ trucks so we left there and headed (well that'll remain a secret for the time being).. Just wondering how much noise was being made today..

You are right it used to be a go to place I could tell ya places that most haven't even seen .Now since the Feds bought up the farm it put the breaks on em you can sit and watch em they'll get up fly high North or east then another group will Boyce right into the rest area from where ever .
They need to rotate the units say rest area to the east this season the next to the west or even go the north this year the south next year . If theirs as menu ducks as they say where they gonna nest this spring and summer ? They'll be on top of each other . I heard a report from Luke Naylor 1 million Mallards are here . I just don't get it .
My dad and all his brothers and friends hunted hurricane back before duck hunting was popular and the thing to do. That was and still is one of the places we hunt on a very regular basis but it seems to me that there were more ducks down there when I was a kid (i am only mid 30). Mike Pearrow hit it right on the head TOO MUCH FED LAND WHERE NOBODY CAN HUNT!!! It doesnt take them long to figure out where they can sit and nobody touch them and then all they do is go back year after year.

Rest area and surrounding private fields at broadwater.......you will see Mr Naylors 1,000,000
You folks are correct on the rest areas.. I've hunted Hurricane and Cache since the mid 60's and watched the morning flight patterns change after the rest areas were put in.. At Cache birds use to fly the river south to north every morning, now they fly west to east or west to northeast going from one rest area to the other..
Bknwr

When the season is over and the gates are open check out the CRP grounds on BKNWR . That is where the flooded timber will be in just a few years (10/15ft trees right now). The ducks in that region have no reason to leave they have all that they need . That's a great ideal but only in moderation .
simple solution. rotate rest areas every 2 years.
I didn't go to the parks as a kid or go skating I went to the woods with my daddy and I've seen changes . I even use to run around at what is now BKNWR before they even dreamed of it . If there was one place I would hunt down there I'd hunt by the old duck blind on pole break . It's a pretty spot I love to just go watch fish jump there .
The only reason I even care the Feds got it is cause both my cousins got a job with them . The use to work for bockmen for years they worked long hours scraped by on lil pay now they got good jobs . This is the only reason I'm glad a Feds got it other than u still has access to it . I'll tell ya funny story ! When my dad was in his young teen years he picked up chunks and stumps when they was clearing all that . Now they are planting it back in trees .
