Heard an interview with the kid on The Buzz. He sounds very intelligent and mature for his age. Came across as confident, but not cocky.

Depending on the service, it is extremely rare to see a kicker higher than 3 stars. In 2019 Rivals had none.

Scout is the most generous and occasionally they'll give 4 or 5 stars to a kicker.

I don't remember all the details on why but it has been this way since around 2010 or 2012. Something to do with overall rankings of kids. I just don't remember.

Star rankings are just semi-educated guesses, at best.

Star rankings by the recruiting services are basically an overview of many tangible talents that a kid displays on the field. Speed, hands, strength, IQ, height, weight, etc. Most of those won't apply to a kicker. Not that a kicker shouldn't be recognized when he is good at his job but on the other hand, if a kicker is on decent team, he may not see the field but 3 or 4 plays a game. Sometimes less. Recruiting services aren't going to spend a lot of time and resources going to a game on a Friday night where the kid they're going to scout might see the field for two snaps.

Plus, kickers should be fairly easy to evaluate as a coach. Watch a punter take a snap, time him from when it hits his hands until it's off his foot. How much hangtime did the ball have and how far did it go? Done! Coaches can see that at a summer camp.
