I run beagles on rabbits. Here’s a few things I can come up with.
Be able to call your dogs back even if they’re running a hot track. I don’t like calling my dogs off a track, but being able to do so allows you to hunt more areas. It’s also nice to be able to walk back to the truck without having to lead all your dogs back.
It takes a lot of time to make a pup a finished dog, and some of them will not make it. Don’t get pups if your not willing to put the work into them.
Don’t be afraid to get rid of dogs that won’t work for you. Example: I’ve got a dog right now that will run the hair off a rabbit by herself, but she will not pack up with my other dogs. She’s young and I hope she out grows it. If she doesn’t, I’ll find her a new home. If selling a dog or giving a dog to someone else, be honest on why your getting rid of said dog.
