A buddy was doing some scouting on Nat'l Forest land around Mena last weekend, and said ground was littered with acorns. Is this normal?
x2my guess is that they put on a lot of acorns when we were getting good rain and when it turned off hot and dry the trees have to cut their losses and drop some of them due to the stress.
At least you KNOW that! Most don't.:shrug:Correction on Pin Oak trees dropping acorns, They are willow oaks, I was raised calling them Pin Oaks. I was 30 years old before I found out they were really Willow Oaks and Not Pin Oaks. But the acorns are good.
I've had some pretty good arguments over this myself. You have to show them the proof and then sometimes you still get some Non-Believers!!At least you KNOW that! Most don't.
I have tried to clarify this point many times in conversation.......
Only if you don't know what you're looking at, or standing in! One has narrow, "willow" like leaves while the other has a leaf that gets wider towards to tip and ends in a lobe. They DO hybridize, but still.....Not trying to throw a monkey wrench, but those willow oaks could be water oaks. I still say pin oak flat
