308 express

OK, I'll be the dumb one and ask if a standard 308 cartridge will fit in a 308 express lever rifle? If it is custom fit- what is the possible longevity of this cartridge? I am a lever rifle kind of guy and this rifle sounds awesome. I just do not want to buy something that is going to be hard to find ammo for. I would also like to see Marlin make a 26 inch octagon barrel for the 30-30 round like they have for the 45-70.

No, the 308 Win can't fit into a rifle chambered for the 308 Marlin. The Marlin round is .115" shorter that the 308 Win, and the Marlin round has more body taper to aid extraction. This gives the case a little less capacity than the 308 Win.
We just saw somebody selling an octagonal barreled winchester '94 in 30-30. It had to be a special edition, and it sure was purty. Sold real quick, too...:frown: At least we know they're out there.
Yea, flint, I missed getting that 94 by only a matter of hours. It did sell quick ..... maybe next time.
I thought you can only use the soft pointed Leverevolution bullets in a .308 express? It's a tubular magazine, so regular pointed bullets could set off the whole thing, right?

You are correct. I was playing devils advocate. I had seen a gun show where they were showing what would happen if you put in the wrong ammo in a rifle. The ammo looked very similar. I think the show was Guns and Ammo (the torture test- someone let me know if this is wrong).

Thanks Mr. C, I knew they were close but did not know the exact measurements.

They make the Marlin 30-30 rifle with an octagon barrel, but it is only 20 inches long. I would like that rifle with a 26 inch barrel. I think they make a 24 inch barrel in the new XL rifle. I like the blued versions better.

You are correct.
That's what I thought. I'm a big fan of the Marlin lever action. When I first read about that gun, I was all excited to get one, but then I saw that you only have one bullet option. Forget that!
