i think......................it must be close to deer season cause the good threads are coming back to life on here:thumb::popcorn:

Having said that I have no issue with it, but i don't think there should be anymore restrictions beyond it

I think it helps, but only a little BECAUSE...

Folks that are gonna break rules won't pay any attention to it anyway...

Folks that are concerned with that type of stuff, already restrict themselves in the first place, so they wouldn't shoot one under the 3pt. rule anyway.

Youth are exempt from the rule as their first buck, and the special youth hunt does not fall under that rule, if I am not mistaken.

In todays world of big bucks , competition, and hunting shows, a lot of hunting is more about the antlers and less about the meat, so that also reduces the number of young bucks shot.... and many meat hunters are starting to take more does because they are so plentyful.

So all of these combined actually minimize the good that the rule is intended for.

And that " good " is relative to each individual.... a lot of folks don't think the AGFC should cater to " Horn Hunters " by creating a class of Monster Bucks at the average tax paying citizens expense...

the three point rule is not smart. It has been promoting bad genes in our herd. young eights are getting killed and the young forks are living to do some breeding. I have seen more spikes and forks in the past three years than ever in my life anywhere.

The 3pt rule has done what it was "designed" to do on my lease. I wish, even though one day I might would regret it, that the AGFC would enforce or strongly promote doe harvest. I know of some leases that once you take a buck you have to take a doe before you can take your second buck. I myself am guilty of getting my bucks and not taking a doe or two. If you saw my game camera pics from this year you would agree that there is a problem. Last year at this time I was getting multiple racked bucks at every camera site, but I know where most all of them ended up.. :banghead:

I need it dropped so I can shut down a line of bad genes on my land....I'm tired of watching all the nice racks get wiped out before the rut, and nothing left buy forked antlered deer....somebody shoot them! They never grow eye guards!

They never grow eye guards!
I think it is messing up the genes in the deer herd in a lot of areas of Arkansas. It is effectively removing the eye guards around here. :thumb:
I feel the same way. We see more and more deer missing either one or both eyeguards. I don't remember seeing that 10 to 15 years ago. I also feel it lets the runts do more breeding, just what we don't need. It forces people that would be content just taking a spike or forkhorn for the meat and getting out of the woods to stay longer to harvest a larger buck.

Just because the 3 point rule was lifted doesn't mean you can't wait for a larger buck if that's your choice.

The 3 point rule has helped in some areas and hurt in others.

I live and hunt in the delta and the 3 point rule has high graded our deer.

As it was stated above the young year and a half 8 points are being killed, so you're taking the best genes out of the herd and leaving the big 4 points that can't be shot by an adult and they get age, and size, and guess what that's the ones breding the does. We had big bucks in the delta before the 3 point rule.

Now down south I think the 3 point rule has helped.

I was always for the first buck a buck of choice and then the second one must have 4 on one side. Then you could take the big 4 points out of the herd.

Just my 2 cents, you can take that and two two dollar bills and maybe get a gallon of gas.

My problem is with the Timber company lease making 8 pt. 14 in. rules for lease, but not owning the whole area. The lease next to ours is under 3 pt. rule, and younger bucks hop the fence and get harvested after we let them walk.Really don't see the point,I like meat in the freezer, never ate an antler, what do they taste like. I feel and just my opinion mind you, there is always some big deer around, you just don't always see them in daylight without some effort, i.e. hunting thickets, isolate creeks and hollows.Got plenty of pictures of large 10 and 12 pts.,even one 13 with a drop tine, but very few sightings in daylight.I don't have a problem with rules, just would like everyone have same ones. There, I've vented now, feel better now. Thanks.
