22LR ammo testing

Tried some different ammo out over the last few days. Tikka T1x last week, Bergara B14r today.

Here’s the raw results. All groups are 10 rounds at 50 yards except one. Some ammo was pretty good, others get relegated to the blasting ammo box. Probably the worst in these 2 rifles was the Aguila SV. It was so bad in the Bergara that I quit the second round after 4 shots. The first target on the left side was used for the first rounds with the new ammo. I do a minimum of 10 rounds to season the barrel with the new lube.

The top 4 targets are just checking sights, testing and some are different ammo one one target. The dime on each target is for reference.

Good shooting. I have similar results with everything too. Nothing really out shines the rest. All the SK is pretty good. The Norma is very close though. I've tried all the high end stuff and it's really not much better. Prolly best all around, for the money is SK, with Norma so close I don't know why I don't just shoot it all the time.

My Bergara likes the Aquila Super Extra, but my 457 hates it. It's too loud anyways. I won't shoot that junk in any good gun ever again. I don't trust it.

I have zero luck with the CCI. It won't shoot in my 457 and won't eject. Don't look like your Bergara likes it either. I've heard Tikka guys say it shoots great for them. Did you try it in the Tikka?

I'm not sure the Norma ain't the best in your B14.
I just looked again. I guess I didn’t shoot the CCI SV in the Tikka. 🤦🏻‍♂️

The RWS R50 was given to me by another shooter to try in this rifle. At $20+/50 I’m not paying that.

I didn’t have any more SK Semi Auto to try in the B14. I have 2 cartons on the way, whenever it gets here.

I’ll probably stick with one of the SK varieties for match shooting and maybe shoot the Norma for practice, although the SK Semi Auto is only ~50¢ per box difference. $6 for Norma, $6.50 for SK. My gut feeling is to only shoot SK in the B14 to keep the bore seasoned only with the SK lube.

If you have some Remington thunderbolts stacked anywhere, try them out of that Tikka. I still don’t really understand it, but they shoot about as good as anything out of mine, it has the 16 inch barrel though. Now granted, the bullets I’m shooting were purchased in the early 2000’s, and QC standards may have been different back then, but they shoot. Can’t remember if this group was at 40 or 50 yards. Eley Match shot well, but never shot a 10 shot group with those. CCI velocitores shoot well also, and are my choice for a hunting round at the moment.

The Norma Tac 22 seemed to string out in my gun. CCI mini mags shot real close to the velocitores I’ve just got fewer of those on hand. Below are some 5 shot groups from last year out of my Tikka, I want to say they were at 40 yards, but can’t remember for certain.

Here’s some of the stuff I like to shoot. There’s much better but too pricey for this ol country boy. Throw the Geico out. First I got was really good. Later purchases sure wasn’t nothing to write home about. Some lot #’s of the Sks Standard + is fantastic. As good as CenterX. Some isn’t. Sometimes you get lucky. Don’t own a Tikka not Bergara. But have shot some. I shoot 452’s and 453’’s . Only one 455 (a Scout. Anschutz’s, Remingtons, and Winnie’s. Norma’s and CCI’s haven’t worked out for me but have for some of the others I shoot with . I have seen some groups shot at XRing’s range that is almost unimaginable.

I shoot a lot of the Eley Target and really like it. Put it through the Waltz Die first.

I use to like Wolf, but my guns now won't shoot it. SK Standard is my main gig, with the Norma a close second. I use to shoot the Eley Match in the black box, but it's just not much better, if any, than the SK. The only edge I would give it is you can see it in the scope better. This is only beneficial when doing the NRL type matches. Don't mean nothing when shooting paper.
Not anywhere close to any of you Pro Shooters..
CCI SV shoots the Best Outa my Rifles and
CCI Mini Mags...2ND...
Never shot any SK or The High end 22 Ammo..
Do have a Remington Bucket of Bullet's that bought before the pandemic...
Have several Buckets..They Shoot pretty good Also..
Bought a Newer Bucket and they Don't shoot so we'll..
Good Shooting..
I’ve never been won over by the performance of CCI SV in any of my rifles.
For punching paper, I probably had the best results with RWS in my 452.
For squirrel hunting, Mini Mags shoot very well out of my 77/22 and my 452.
My 10/22T shoots CCI Velocitors extremely well and that is a big reason it gets taken to the woods more than the others.

In Ozark, Missouri. Doc Holiday's has a really good selection, even back when the shortage was raging. I have a ton, so I ain't bought any in a while. Be worth a check though.
