I woke up this morning with a splitting headache, so I was late getting to my stand. The sun was already up. I normally get in my stand about 20 minutes before day light. This stand is a lock on a little over 30 feet high. When I got eye level with the platform this is what was looking back at me.
I do have a lifeline on this stand, but I don't want to have to try it out.
I'm not scared of snakes, but I almost grabbed this one. I usually use my platform as a handle when I'm climbing up and it has a black strap attached right where the snake was laying.
He was as surprised as I was. I was also thinking. If he tries to come down the tree we are going to have to pass at some point. Luckily he baled off the platform and landed in a pile of greenbrier.
There was a snake about that size in Vietnam called the "one step" because if you got bit that's about how far you can go before you're dead. My instructor at the Sniper School told me that if I got bit not to run, but rather sit down and ask the Almighty to forgive all your sins! That's the first thing I think of every surprise encounter like you had!
I climbed up a 15' box stand ladder and when I opened the door a big ol swamp rat had made a nest around the base of the office chair in the stand. That think jumped out and ran down my back to make his escape. Scared the hell out of me! Glad there wasn't any snakes! Back then it was actually cold when gun season rolled around.
lol. ratsnake. rattlesnake. doesnt matter to me. im afraid my fear of snakes would have took over and i would have taken the bail out plan, and probably broke my legs when i hit the ground...

Good eye. I think this is one I got off a member on here. I have two. This stand sight was a late setup and I had all my normal lockons already setup. I just use it like a lock on.
I was cleaning my box stand out this year and killed the wasp and was about to get in it only way in is crawl head first through the door. I heard somethikg crawling around in there thought it was a rat looked on the wall it was a flying squirrel. I got down and left the door open it jumped out and went in a tree I shot with my Judge. I climbed back in and one jump out litteraly jumped on my head and into a tee I liked to freaked out. I had to bring pellet gun back the next day I killed 4.
Hope you passed on him he is young be a good one next year bahaha
