If I was to have only one cc gun AND was limited in how much I could practice, a hammerless snubby 38 would do the job. HOWEVER, I would prefer a subcompact Glock 9mm for ease of reloading in a bad situation. My wife hated the recoil from her 38
It's a solid gun, if you're willing to accept the limitations that come with carrying a 5-shot snubby. It's going to require more work on your part to train yourself to be able to get fast, accurate hits under stress, and quite a bit more work to get good at reloading one under stress.
For the same money you can get a 9mm Shield or G43 that will be slimmer, hold more rounds of more effective ammo, and be easier to shoot/reload.
My instructor did recommend one if the person wanted to be holding the weapon and keeping it concealed. He gave an example of being in high alert because of your surroundings yet no threat has been initiated. You could keep the weapon in you coat pocket or purse, in hand ready to fire. If the weapon is discharged in a concealed area, like a purse, it would not be as likely to jam as other firearms. The ladies in class seamed to like the idea.
The trigger pull is very different. It isn't super heavy, but it is long! It is smooth though, and you can learn the break point if you shoot enough. They are a very light gun, +p loads can be pretty snappy. If you handload +p, put a good crimp on them, that gun will shake then up pretty good.
I wouldn't mind having one, I remember my old .38 when I tried to yank it out of my pocket, the hammer hung and the front of a nice brown leather bomber jacket was pretty much ruined.
