Friend just got back (Sunday morning) from fishing Atkins....he didn't do too well, but in the past Lake Atkins was the place to be for bream fishing. Haven't been in a long time. Let us know how your fishing turned out.

Got bites all day long , but all we did was feed them. Lost 2 good cats in the brush, fish are way up in there! Them bream can suck a cricket right off a hook.

I don't know if lake Atkins still has good numbers of red ears, but used to be awesome for red ears also. That lake at one time would have given Nimrod a run for the money as a crappie hole, but thats been some years ago, like in the 50s!

In the past most of the crappie I have caught out of Atkins were small. I heard of some good crappie being caught out of there this year. If you ever learn Ouachita crappie you will be hooked to one place for life.

A buddy of mine used to go to Lake Atkins and he hauled a bunch of slab crappie out of there, about 5 years back, before the big drawdown. He had found them regularly in a cove. His trick, though, was that he would get there about 2:00-3:00am and stay until just about dawn. He would be coming off the lake just as everyone else was hitting the ramps. He brought some unbelieveably big slabs by work several times.

One thing about ole Lucky Landing on Atkins, don't get there early during the week to buy bait. He don't open till 7! We had to wait an hour and 15 minutes.
