Saw one many years ago just across the Arkansas River from Holla Bend in Flagg Pond, a huge one was caught in a ditch in the Blackwell Bottoms by Morrilton a few years ago, no reason to be surprised with one in Conway.
When dad was still working AGFC they released several over here to supposedly control beavers some dumb commissioners idea. But back to the story he pulled up to the river and there were a few older black folks standing there fishing. Dad said they couldn't see the gators until they bailed out of the back of the truck off in the water. Said the old folks left poles, 5 gal bucket, and everything jumped in their car and hauled a$$!!! There are still a few around here today
I had a big snake try to get in the boat last summer while bream fishing on lake conway, I ended that with a boat paddle. Took some pics and it was a reticulated python someone turned loose that got to big I guess. Maybe why it wasn't scared of people, but I wasn't taking any chances! It was a good 5.5 or 6 footer!
Saw a ~4 footer on the Cadron a last year. Off of the river.
Saw a 12 footer at Toad Suck one time. First one I'd ever seen, well live anyway.
Did not see it for sure, but was about 50% positive there was a smaller one out in the back areas of Caney Creek on Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir. Er...I mean Lake Conway. I was fishing at night, done it quite a few times and fought the snakes every time. Few catfish this time of year. And a bunch of bullheads, grinnel (big ones), and gar. Last time I went at night, saw a snake crawl from the bridge to the water, and it's tail was still in the bridge while it's head was within inches of the water. Probably a good 6 foot long. I ain't scared of 'em too much but I just haven't been back since. Not at night anyway. Then there was the one time when I saw the tail of a snake sticking up on the back side of the Evinrude 9.9 cowling. I about jumped out of my own skin. I thought it was coming into the boat. For whatever reason I was really edgy that day anyway and that just put the icing on the cake. If I'd have had a shotgun, I'd probably have killed the 9.9 trying to get that snake. Never did see the whole snake though.
Them gators are out there. Not a lot of 'em but they're out there. Kinda like Mountain Lions.
