Pine Tree Permit Hunt

Anybody go? I've been out there the last couple of days and had some decent hunts. Saw 8 doe yesterday morning, but nothing in the afternoon. For the first time ever, I shot AT a hog, but never saw any sign of a hit. There were probably 30 that came by in one big herd, every size and color! I picked out a biggun and chunked a slug at it, but not sure what happened. There were pigs running everywhere! Went back this morning and saw a 6 point. Nothing at all in the afternoon. Four of us were hunting together, and no one saw anything in the afternoon. The hogs have only been there a very few years, but I can see that they will become a problem soon. The son in law talked to a wildlife officer that said more hogs were killed than deer. I didn't hear much shooting at all--except for the duck hunters. Several reports of bucks chasing does, but none behind the ones I saw.

hunt

I did not get drawn this yr. First time ever we did not get drawn for gun or ML one. Did not even draw the youth hunt. First year that you could not just go buy one. I have seen bucks chasing doe in the area though. My only 4 permit hunts I drew were cancelled due to water. Its been a rough year. I saw over200 hogs there last year in different areas. Maybe as many as 500. Rumor is a local there knew an old boy who had trapped some down south and brought them up and let go about 100. I believe it was at least 5 yrs ago. Could really screw up my deer hunting there if they are not wiped out.
