Well, I've come full circle with my hunting. Many years ago I was sitting on a log with my Granddaddy squirrell hunting, and I couldn't sit still for the mosquitos swarming me. He, on the otherhand, was totally oblivious to them. While I was swatting and blowing at them trying to get them to leave me alone, he just sat there like a statue looking into the trees, and listening to the sounds of the woods.

Well, Saturday morning I'm sitting on a log again with my 9 year old Grandson on his first squirrell hunt, and guess what. He's making so much noise and movement trying to deal with the mosquitos that the chance of actually seeing any squirrells in nearly none. Me, on the other hand, have assumed the same posture as my Granddaddy had.

I realized this while sitting there. It really didn't matter if we got any squirrells. We were both just enjoying each others company, and playing out the roles that we were intended to.

Good Luck with the squirrells.

I think I know what you mean. I took my lil bro that i've raised on his first squirrel hunt this last weekend. It's a great feeling seein their faces when they get that first squirrel. An even funnier one when you see them clean it!

You bet, I like those dogs but there something special about being in the woods, sitting on a log, watching those ticks crawl, hearing mosquitos and horse flies buzz and seeing a copperhead crawling in the leaves then hear a branch shake and a see a squirrel grab a big hickory nut and try to get a shot at him as the cuttings fall around you. It's good memories.
