Hey guys,
I plan to squirrel a little this year. With any luck I will have a few after each hunt. Can any of you recommend a squirrel skinner? I have seen some that hang from a tree and hold the squirrel for you, I just don't know where to get one. Maybe someone has an idea how to make one?

This is a home made one, it was my Dads, made in the 50s, appears to be made out of 3/16 or 1/4 steel rod.

Theres nothing to cleaning them I just use my hands I make a cut in the skin on top of their back just enough that I can get two fingers from each hand in it and then I pull untill I have it at least to the knees of the squirrel but the further the better then I break the bones in the knees and cut the legs off from the skin once you do it on all four legs cut where the tail is attached and twist the head untill the neck snaps then cut the head off its smoot sailing from there just cut the underside open and get out all the guts (they really feel good on your hands if its cold) then soak the meat in water and freeze or cook it

I use to see these @ walmart but could never find them when I was in High school and College. I knew what the packaging looked like so I went to walmart and found a package like it (haydel game calls) called them up and asked them about it. They said they did not make them any more but had a box full of them in the back. I ordered 2 for about $7.50 apiece They sent them to me. I love mine it works good
I bought one called the Hunters Helper Game Skinner at the Expo last weekend and I cant say enough good things about it.
I had all but quit squirrel huntin' cause I hated to clean em but once I got used to it this skinner made it almost easy.
The box said they had a website at huntershelper.com but I couldnt get it to load. I dont know if the server is down or what but if you can find one I highly recomend giving it a try.
It was $15 but it was money well spent to me.

Here is a video of the method I use. It is ~ 1 mb, so it might take a minute for the dial up guys.

Mr. Chitlin,
Of all of the things I've read on this board over the past couple months, your squirrel skinning video wins my "Most Informative Post" award! :thumb:
Like most people, I have always loved to squirrel hunt, but dreaded cleaning 'em..... thank you so much for sharing the video! :woohoo: :thumb:
Sincerely,

Cut a slit under the tail, put foot on tail, pull feet of squirrel and the skin will come off like a sock.

Do like my dad did, enlist the "help". You know the ones that are old enough to follow instructions but too young to talk back. I held many a squirrel's leg in my day. ha Always thought it funny to watch him peel the skin off.
