Anybody seeing any young birds? Just hope they did better than the turkeys around here.

I am not optimistic that any quail even nested on my place this year. I have worked on improving the habitat but about all I can see is an abundance of turkey for my efforts, which I have no interest in whatsoever. I did not realize we were so close to virtual extinction of the bobwhite in this area until it was too late. I can only hope some birds will come to the steadily improving habitat from a surrounding area or that the AG&FC will see fit to transplant some at a future date if natural restoration does not occur. It would thrill me just to hear one whistle.

We have seen a few birds this year on our place not many but a friend of mine said the Game and Fish just planted some food plots and they are covered with quail eating the seed

I have seen more quail this year than in years past. Our lease has some 2 year old clearcuts and that may have helped.

This last weekend I saw a yearing hatch of quail in the Lespedeza that I planted this year. There were around 12 with at least one adult bird. I have seen more quail this year then I have the last five years around the food plots that I planted Lespedeza in. I plan to plant some more areas in the spring with Lespedeza and cow and iron peas out at the lease to see if that helps. I am told by my father-in-law that the quail really like the seeds that the Laspedeza produces.

My father-in-law and I started noticing quite a few quail around the farm near Mountain Home last spring. I haven't seen many in the last few months, but I know they're there and making a comeback.

Bird Dog, I've seen four coveys of baby quail @ the lease in the past month, two weeks ago I found a bunch of chicks that had hatched within the week, they were up on the ridge, in the old camp clear cut.

Good question!

I don't know that there are enough to hunt right now, but I guess ya never know 'til you get a dog to flush 'em out for ya. I'm planning on putting out some millet and maybe fertilize some of that milkweed and see if I notice a difference next season. I don't even have a shotgun worthy of wing shooting right now...I mean YET...

I have seen several quail out in the fields and the other day i was goin to help my granpa in one of our hay fields and i have to go past most of my relatives and i got about 100 yards from one of my cousins house and a momma quail and one little one stepped out in the road and i slowed teh truck down but they didnt move and went under the truck and when i looked in the rear view mirror i seen them lookin at me then went on into the ditch. But it was a funny story when i told my granpa

I was driving on the lease this morning when I saw two adult quail in the road in front of me. The road is covered with grass and weeds so I stopped the truck. Then I noticed a bunch of baby quail in the road about as tall as my thumb length. I turned around and went the opposite direction so as not to run over any of the babies. :thumb:
But one of John Stiles's boogie man wasn't so lucky.
