Sorry, I don't have a pic of my rimfire squirrel rifle. It's a Ruger 77 22, 4X Leupold Compact scope. Of all things this gun prefers CCI Stingers. 1/2 inch 50 yard groups!

Most of my 22's spray Stingers into about 1 1/2 inches at 50 yards.

X, I really love the 541-S. Wish I had bought one when they were available.

No picture but my favorite is an older Marlin 39D. I just really like that old lever gun.

X, that is a beautiful rifle! I wish I had a picture of mine. Maybe I can post one in next couple of days. I have an Savage/Anschutz 164 Sporter with a really pretty walnut schnabel (not sure if I spelled that right) stock with palm swell and monte carlo cheek piece. I also shoot Wolf Match Target. Best .22 ammo I know of for the price. I have a Leupold vari-x III 6.5-20x40 efr on mine if I'm trying to shoot silhouette. Actually have not tried to kill any squirrels with it yet. Hope to this fall. By the way mines a tack driver to!

Stickbow, thats the same scope I have on this one, with EFR. I had a Kimber super American that was a lot nicer looking gun, but would not consistantly shoot with this one, its gone and this one has a home!!
Be sure and post a photo of the Savage Anschutz, they are fine rifles. x

My current one isn't much to look at. I found out my old one was an antique and maybe valuable, so I put it away and bought a cheap marlin single shot. My "newer" one is a kids version with a shorter stock and barrel, but the smaller size is handy in the woods at night coonhunting . My old go to squirrel gun is an old Marlin model 97 that I used for years coonhunting and squirrel hunting and we went to some western museum and I saw my gun in there. It was my grandpa's and my dads and we all used it. Its lever action, hex barrel. I ran some serial numbers on a website and it dates to 1906.

In all the past seasons I have used shotguns but my grandma on my moms side whom I hardly ever see brought me the .22 she used when she was a girl (its hard to believe she ever was) Its a J.C. Higgins I also have the J.C. Higgins offshore reel both of them are about as old as X but I love the gun

I often use a Ruger 10/22 to squirrel hunt with. It has a Leupold 6.5-20, AO, EFR: Greem Mtn. Target, Fluted barrel, Target Kit (hammer & shear), Nylon recoil pin, Laminated thumb hole stock. Best five shot group I have shot is .12" @ 50 yards from the bench. This is my favorite, especially when the leaves are off. It is a little heavy for some off hand shots.

This rifle really likes Wolfe Match Target ammo and also does quite well with CCI hollow points :thumb:

Sylamore, My rifle also likes the CCI mini mags, almost as well as the wolf match target, and I have a Ruger MKII competition slabside that dearly loves the CCI mini mags. Good looking range set up you have there, is it private or public? x

I really like to use the .22 LR, CCI mini mags on Ground Hogs. I have made several 50 yard head shots and they never move other than just melting to the ground.

The range is public. A cooperative effort by the U.S. Forest Service, AR G&F, and AR Dept of Corrections. Free to the public, open all year, daylight hours only, cardboard/paper targets only. Contributions can be made to help with the maintaince of the range. There is also an adjacent pistol range to 50 yds. and 200 yds on the rifle. It is located 12 miles N. of Mtn View on Hwy 5. If you come up this way, plan to do some shooting.

Thanks, I may very well do that, I have a very good friend who lives at Guion, I get up that way once in a while. Love that country,,,,except for the small round rocks and steep hillsides, sure makes it tough on an ole man:thumb:

Here is my squirrel slayer. My son and I both use Marlin 17VS rifles, both wear Simmons AETEC 3.8x12x44AO scopes. The group under the dime is 5 shots at 50 yards.

X, I'll try to dust off the anschutz and shoot a group or two and take a picture this weekend hopefully. When shooting groups with it one time I actually shot a fly on the target paper at 50yds. Only reason I knew I hit it was speck blood and leg where it was sitting. To bad there was no witness. EFR with target dot is one fine scope. In my opinion the higher power is a great asset at least for shooting groups. I move it back and forth between rifles when shooting groups or anything long range. It's on my .17 rem at the moment. I busted several armadillos last weekend. farthest just shy of 200 steps. Really wanted to shoot some groundhogs but had to settle for armadillos.

My favorite squirrel rifle is a little powerful for tree rats but man it get's er done. A winchester 22 magnum lever action with a Bushnell 3x9x30mm scope. It shoots well and is light enough to carry all morning while slipping through the woods. Better shoot fer their heads cause , it will wreck a squirrel sometimes otherwise. Really love to hunt with it before deer season to sharpen my shooting ability. But as everyone knows hunting later is better in the year after the leaves fall. :thumb:

Don't have a pic or know the model but I use a Marlin .22 with a stainless steel barrel and cherry stock. It has a small scope but plenty big enough to kill a squirrel and can cover the group at 50 yards with the fingertip of my thumb.

Mine has an integral silencer from AWC in Arizona. It is a Ruger 10/22 with the bull barrel silencer which is stainless. I put in a oversized mag release button for those high volume shooting days. Actually, I just got back from a prairie dog hunt and it was a blast to shoot so much. I guess you could say it is my squirrel/prairie dog rifle. FWIW, my gun is BATF legal.
All NFA rules apply.

fb - is that silencer part of the barrel or an add-on? I also have a SS bull barrel and was wanting a silencer.

I shoot a Savage Anschutz with ely's target shell or a bull barrel ruger 10/22 with remington sub-sonics. both do very well. The Anschutz is'nt much to look at but it is wicked bad. Does anyone have a 541s for sale by any chance?

No pics at the moment but my two favorites are the Ruger 77/22 Stainless which shoots Winchester Power-Points extremely well, and the Winchester 94/22 lever action. Both shoot excellent groups and do fine work on gray squirrels.

Reflex1,
Mine is part of the barrel. You could just order the barrel and use your gun or send the company your gun and they can switch the barrels for you. They do make the threaded screw on types but I like the integrated models since no body knows it is a silencer until they shoot it. I like to keep a low profile and not be a target of theft.

Thanks Flyingbrass, I really like that little ole gun. Its not the first one of those I've owned, but fully intend to own it when I die. I've owned several that were more expensive, but none that shoots as consistantly good as this one does.

There used to be a NAPA store out towards Jacksonville that had silienced rimfires, had some quality pieces, a neat looking set up, just looked like a heavy barrel, if you didn't know any better. Always thought I'd own one someday to squirrel hunt with, but my walking days are about over....x

Here is a pic of my squirrel gun. It's a Marlin 1897 CL (basically a 39A). Since this pic was taken, I've put a Burris 4-12x32 Compact w/AO & target knobs on her. Eyes just got so I couldn't pick the squirrels out of the leaves using the peep sight. I need to take a new pic with the scope on her.

xring, I have a Remington 541s that was my first 22 rifle as a boy. It doesnt look as nice as yours anymore and I hope to have it returned to like new in the future. They sure shoot goo, even mine with SEVERAL thousands of rounds through it.
I bought a NEF sportster in 17HMR to squirrel hunt with this year, got to get a decent scope for it and start shooting it .
I hope everyone has a good year and though I am not a religious man, lets all think of the people south of us and help anyway we can.
