A group of us went out yesterday on Fort Chaffee. We did well. This is a photo of my nephew with his third rabbit of the day:

Great picture Major! I haven't had rabbit in quite a spell. Fried rabbit with biscuits and gravy sounds awfully good right now!:thumb:

Last eve the wife and I were treated to a splendid meal of fried cottontail. Boneless, but with just enough threat of a #8 shot to make you chew slowly so as to maximize the enjoyment of the incomparable taste. Where we bird hunt, south of Witchita Falls, cottontails (jacks too) are very abundant and we always take a few that we kick up. Fried rabbit is hard to beat. I have not seen anyone hunting with beagles out there but I think it would be a lot of fun if you could keep them off the jacks.

The problem with rabbit hunting now is posted land. You have to get written permission on everthing you hunt. When I was a teen and raising dog you could hunt anywhere. Not like that anymore. :frown: :frown:

We have been rabbit hunting since the season came in. I have been having fried rabbit atleast once a week. We went about a month ago and killed 24 rabbits in one morning. We have been doing alright. I think the last time we went we got 11. Right now we are not able to hunt. We have one dog with pups and our 2 males, our best dogs, are sick. SO.... guess we will have to wait till next season. The best way to eat rabbit is fried with creamy gravy and buscuits. I am getting hungry just thinking about it!!!

Been bunny huntin several times in the last month, no bunnies though. Found several spots where rabbits have been eaten, guess by coyotes.

#8 shot? No wonder you have to be so careful eating it! That's why I use #6- it's easier to find the shot (and there's less of them in the first place).

Anybody with some beagles got an opening for a hunting buddy? These Texas boys don't seem to know what beagle is used for as they are wrapped up chasing hogs.I got some great stories and promise not to shoot too good as not to show anyone up  .Got an uncle that keeps a pair in Little Rock but his wife has been very ill as of late.

I have several beagles, anyone that wants to go kill a few or has some good spots with lots of rabbits, I'll provide the dogs.

That's why I use a 22 bolt action rifle with a 4X32 Simmons scope......Head Shot! No lead to worry about plus don't have to buy steel shot to hunt on Refuge and Management Lands.

Hey Mike, me and Boomer Killed 13 on Chistmas Day in front of the house. If you think crap is getting deep tell them about the ear shot with the 22 with no front sight. Before you ask I only have about 2 or 3 left and man are they going to be tasty.

man I miss rabbit hunting. I too am someone who used to go often but no longer maintain a pack of dogs, kinda hard in Little Rock. I bought my wife a little beagle for a house pet a year ago, came out of some strong stock around quitman. The guy said he wouldn't sell me her if I didn't take her hunting. I swore I would but not quite sure what the wife would think now with her baby out in the brush piles :smack:
We used to run around carlisle and around pine bluff, nothing better than baying beagles on a swamper or a wad of cottontails.
Anyone needin a gun around pulaski or surrounding counties, holla.

Queenie fried rabbit tenderloin Saturday night and deer steak last night and it made me right proud of her! I love deer but bunny is better. I think I'll see if she will cook squirrel and quail next. Meat is good. Life is good.:thumb:
