Many of you are showing interest in ABA membership. There are two memberships available. An annual membership is only $15.00. A Life Membership is a one time price of $250.00. For more information please go to web page (http://www.arkansasbowhunters.org)
By the way, we have an annual membership drive. The new member gets one drawing ticket, and the sponsoring member gets one drawing ticket. There are more tickets given to new life members and their sponsors.
So, if you decide to join, find a sponsor and get in the drawing. There are great prizes, such as bows, stands, hunts, and many other fine products. The drawing is held in September at our Fall Events.

I printed out the app and will try to get it mailed this week.
Should we use your name on the application?

You are free to name any current member as a sponsoring member. Just put their name on the application.
Thank you for thinking of me, but I'm way more than happy to see any current member get a chance at the drawing. My main objective is to see our membership grow, particularly with the work we have to do to get our season back.

Keith, I use to be a member and will gladly join up again. I quit that year in the early eighties when we had the fall shoot at Camp Robinson. Don't remember the exact year, but a lot of us were upset over the choice of targets that year. Maybe I just got with the wrong group. As a bare bow shooter, I didn't have the patience to wait on some guy studying the targets for ten minutes through binoculars just to find the kill zone on a gorilla or monkey. I didn't figure I would ever get a chance to hunt these animals in Arkansas, so my little group started doing our own thing. I'll join back up, but i'm not sure I will participate in the shoots. Thank you, pgooch.

Thanks for the comments. The shoots are a ways to the mean. They provide competition, fellowship, and most importantly - fund raising. We do use 3-D targets, like most organizations, but few of the animals are non-native, but generally native to North America. They are also very realistic. We now shoot two ranges, which helps spread the shooters out, but there is inevitably some waiting. Most folks take advantage of that to build friendships and have a more quality time.
Our main purpose is:
"To foster, expand and perpetuate the use of the bow in the hunting of all legal game, birds, and animals; and to protect, improve, and increase the privileges of bow and arrow hunters."
This one is followed by:
2. "To cooperate with the Federal and State Governments, sportsmen and conservation organizations in the propagation and conservation of game and its natural habitat, the forest and fields."
3. "To conduct a continuous educational program designed to acquaint the public with the bow and its use as a practical and humane weapon, suitable under proper regulations for the hunting of all game animals, fish and birds on the American continent."
4. "To foster and perpetuate a spirit of good fellowship among all Bowhunters."

it seems like most of the shoots are either in central or eastern arkansas, i've never shot 3d but would like to get into it, i just cant see driving 3 or 4 hours both ways to do it.

There are definitely more in central and southeast. Do you have a schedule of all the shoots? If not, I can try to get them posted.

Like I said Keith, I was probably just in the wrong group that day. If you remember, a man in the group ahead of us threw his bow sailing across the tree tops. It was pretty funny listening to him cuss all the way back to his truck. Yes, I did enjoy meeting new people and talking hunting and bows with them, but I think that maybe there should be a time limit set to shoot.

It sounds like Keith has done a great job promoting the ABA....I just have one thing that I would like to add...don't let ONE incident or one person cause you not to join or not to participate in the ABA events. Every group, organization or otherwise will always have the type of people that rub you wrong....but they are usually in the minority...The ABA and its people are great..if you don't like one person then mingle...you are sure to find someone you like being around.
