View Full Version : Numbers
Someone just e-mailed and asked how many members such an organization would have to have to be effective?
By most accounts there are 275,000 hunters in Arkansas, probably 250,000 of those deer hunt. If you do not have at least 10 per cent of those I doubt you can be effective.

Kenn,
Yes, 10% is an admirable goal and will likely be more effective than lesser numbers.
However, the Arkansas Bowhunters Association has consistently maintained a 2 to 2.5% membership ratio to the purported total bowhunting numbers of approximately 50,000.
We are effective, not always as effective as we would like to be, but we fight hard, work hard, and never give up.
I hope the ADA (Arkansas Deerhunters Association) can be as effective, and I believe it has the potential with the foundation of the proposed language and principles I've read so far.
Let's do it!

So your saying we need somewhere between 25 thousand and 30 thousand to have a voice ? one loud enough to be at least heard. Is that achivable?
If you even begin to state that you are speaking for the deer hunters of this state (not to mention impress the commissioners) then you must have the numbers to back that statement up. 10 per cent is a realistic figure.

That would only be about 5-6000 per regions that have been proposed, I think that is a doable number don't yall?

The success of ADHA will be based on convincing ALL Arkansas deer hunters that each issue will effect them sooner or later. Many don't care enough to get involved. And if you leave one group out you shoot yourself in the foot. With the DMA program many folks that lease lands will feel that they have enough flexibility that most issues won't effect them. It will take some good PR work to convey the message of 'All for one and one for all'.
We can get those numbers but we need more people to step up and volunteer to help.
Right now there is a dedicated group of about 20 or 25 that are working on this thing really hard but we need more.

It looks like we are gonna have to go the extra mile to gain peoples interest and even a step further to keep it.
We must convince folks that the ADHA is a necessity and without it, we as hunters will continue to go unheard.
Deerhunter you are so right. The real point that all hunters need to look at is look at the pattern of things happening just here last season and the upcoming season. We all are facing cuts no matter what method you hunt and if it has not effected you yet with this pattern it will. The biggest problem with these cuts are they have no data or accurate information to back them and also if they do they are not releasing to keep hunters informed. Just this would be my number one reason for starting this group to push for communication between both the hunters and the AGFC. Right now they feel they are not neccessarily obiligated to release information to one single individual, but they might be more compiled to release it to a large group wanting the same thing.
Guys believe it or not there are some of the commissioners and AGFC staff that are really hoping we can get this off the ground and going. Just that kinda tells me these individuals need our support. smile.gif

There are alot of game and fish officers that do not understand why they make the rules that they do, I have yet to figure out why they don't ask for their imput on seasons and changes, they are out there way more than the biologist, that is the job I want, sit in an office and tell the kingpins what this area needs and never set foot on the areas they are suppose to know what is going on. That is one of many reasons we need ADHA so that they must show the people who, what, when, where, and how all their changes are needed and all this should/would stop
But we must take things mythadicaly and not get ahead of ourselves.
