View Full Version : NEADHA who would be interested?
Who out there in Northeast Arkansas would be interested in partcipating in a deerhunters association or a chapter of Whitetails Unlimited in this area? Firehog and I have been throwing around the concept and idea. This is just a idea and trying to get an idea how many would be interrested or would partcipate in such an organization. I know Kenn talked about the ideal last summer of a state deer hunters association and I think it fell through. So maybe if we started something like this in this area on a small scale maybe other areas will follow. :D

CDay I'm thinking of some ideas, as I speak. I'll get with you.
To be honest I would rather start our own organization than to be a chapter of a national organization. That way we could base our mission statement and views towards the deer herd and deer management of Arkansas.

It takes a lot of work and time to do these things, you have to have a treasurer,president,chairman,etc.....
I would be willing to help out all I can, so throw me in the mix.
I know it might be too complex for this countryboy's mind to handle, but it is worth a try. smile.gif
But I feel if we were really serious about it their would be some guys that might be able to help us out. I bet Kenn would have some ideas about how to get this thing set up and going.

It is my opinion that if this is going to be started, it needs to be started as one whole, then broken off into branches. btw I would like to help in anyway I can though I am in Little Rock.
JAHaynes last year Kenn tried to get this started at a statewide level. It did not happen because of to much diversity among deerhunters from different parts of the state. So I thought maybe if it started small in one part of the state other areas would follow suit until you actually reach the goal of a state deer hunters association, but you still would have different regions or districts. It is just a thought.
I feel if it can get started small in this area and takes off. Then this area would be able to assist other areas in getting started.

To all on this topic.
I have some suggestions based on involvement in the ABA for 33 years, and almost that many in other organizations.
The issues we all face are Arkansas deer issues. A statewide organization, if structured properly, would be best. It should represent, through elected representation, several areas of the state at a governing council for the state organization. Will everyone agree all the time, probably not - heck, we don't even see that in the ABA. But, it should be founded in the principles of democracy. The various area organizations would address their specific concerns with respect to the deer herd, season length, bag limit, methods, and any necessary restrictions to protect the natural resource.
Ideally, the organization has two top priorities: 1) the natural resource; deer and habitat; and 2) the enjoyment of that resource, among which the most important would be hunting, because of its recreational value, and its significant role in wildlife management.
The ABA has entertained, and debated, affiliating with national organizations. Our result has not to affiliate, but to support on issues where it was needed. This maintains our autonomy, and complies with our own mission statement.
I could go on and on, but I believe I've painted a bit of a picture.
Good luck, and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

even though i live in western arkansas, i think its a good idea, it might be a good idea to start off small and then try to build other areas, slowly but surely.

I believe the idea is to start one in our area, which is North East Ark, because we live in this area. It would be a state wide organization for sure, with districts, chapters, branches etc across the state. I believe setting up chapters in districts would allow for events, fund raiser's, meetings, what ever the reason, on a more localized level. Then hopefully other areas will ban and form their district chapters. As far as statewide level meetings, events, etc I hope who ever has the Little Rock Central area, will host our statewide meetings. We just need to get some chapters up and running. We could certainly plan some statewide meetings down the road, just when the April Commission meeting happens and when the Big Buck Extravaganza happens in Little Rock. I see 5 districts in my mind, but I also think if there was a group of concentrated hunters within a district, I see no reason not to allow formation and run with it, the districts could be big starting out early My idea is more the merrier. So in my mind, this would be the start of a statewide organization, but just started in NEA. CDay, I'm still working on ideas, but work has kept me busy, going to the hills this morning, to check on things, and the gobblegobles.

firehog I am also interested and sure my son will be also but I also believe it should be regional chapters that might meet as one once maybe twice a year.

I don't live in NE Arkansas and I'm not an attorney ( I be a redneck :D )and don't mean to butt in but I've been involved in organizing a couple of local sportsmen's organizations through the years and one now defunct statewide organization and the first thing I would recommend is that whichever way you go you really need to incorporate for non profit tax status and liability purposes.
You can do it yourself and a file a petition along with your Articles Of Incorporation (explains the purpose of the corporation) at the circuit clerks office at the county court house and get it approved by a circuit judge before the Sec. of State will approve it. Filing fee's used to be $75-150 total, can't remember for sure. And I think it still takes a minimum of 3 people to form a non profit corp.
You can call the circuit clerk at the county courthouse and they can tell you where to get the forms and how much the filing fee's are. And don't forget to ask what the Sec of State's fee is. Just a guess but your probably lookin' at a few hundred bucks if you have to hire an attorney.
Or maybe you could make a post and see if there is an attorney on this board or anyone that knows a deer huntin' attorney that would be willin' to donate a couple of hours to the cause and get it done. If not then it's not that complicated to do yourself and I'll be glad to help you guys anyway I can. I may even have some forms laying around out in the barn or someplace. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you very much Warable Watcher for the information. And I would agree if this is to get started in needs to be classified as a non profit organizations.

Hey, years ago when I was doing more bowfishing than sleeping, we used to hull out a few gar from time to time, cut 'em up in chunks, and cook 'em just like crawfish. That and a cold beer - yum - had to make sure the icechest was close to the cooker!
