Who on here bowfishes?

Where do you fish?

Are you in a club or just shoot by yourself.

I use to be a club and everyone just kinda stopped.

I'd like to get back into a club......we'd have a club shoot at least once a month.

I bowfish when I get a chance. One of my friends dad has got a rig set up for it. Do it mainly down by pendleton on the AR river.

What kind of rig do you guys use? I have been thinking about getting into bowfishing but hate to take my nice bow out in a boat. Any suggestions?

Ok rjet,

Ain't no difference in takin' a bow out in a boat or up in a deer stand, unless of course you happen to fall outta the boat! :D

You may get a little fish slime on it every now and then, graemlins/smack.gif but you can just wipe that right off and it'll still take a deer or hit a target! smile.gif

Besides, unless a man's as rich as Sheffield Nelson, ain't no sense in ownin' something if you can't use it! graemlins/thumb.gif

I know guys who use their regular hunting bows but I wouldn't recommend it. The bows get thrown around in the boat.....you'd have to take off your sights and stuff and turn your bow way down.

I use an oneida bow set around 35 pounds......most bows can't be turned down that much and still get the job done, but an oneida will.

Another good option is to get a recurve...I shoot a martin 60 pound.

I used to bowfish extensively. Now, lucky if I go once a year. It's a great sport, but it sure ain't catch and release. We used to have several folks lined up to take the fish. We've fed a lot of needy people in the past.

I don't take my good bow either. I have a bear whitetail II set at 40 lbs. it works great.

Out of all the years I bowfished I never took my good bow either. (I was just joshin' rjet a little :D )

Even when I deer hunted with a long bow then a recurve, I never took my deer hunting bow fishing. Just like today I never take my turkey gun duck hunting or vise versa.

Like Slayer I found that a recurve always worked best for me in most situations, especially tail water fishing. Used to find them around just about any pawn shop. Maybe still can!
