A new law was passed for this year that I was not aware of. If your outboard has any type of shut-off device--as in the lanyard type on the modern outboards--it MUST be attached to the operator while the boat is under power. Does not apply to duck hunting however.

I wonder what is the difference between a duck hunter and a fisherman operating a boat? It does not make sense to me, but really what does with regualtions?

Someone mentioned they thought there are too many duck hunters.

If in fact the regs do exempt duck hunters this saises some questions.

Maybe duck hunters are considered expendable??

Could it be a long term duck "management plan"??

When an accident occurs that could have been prevented by using the shutdown devices is it only the operator that is affected? What about his or her passengers? What about other boats or anything or anyone in the path of a runaway boat?

I have no problem with the reg but isn't this one of those no brainers? It should APPLY TO ALL boat operators.

When I was in jr. high the G&F came to school to talk about outdoor safety, one of the speakers had fallen out of his boat and the boat looped around and hit him a couple of times. He looked like someone had run over him w/ a breakin' plow, it was pretty gruesome.
