Just watched an Indiana Pacers news conference today where instead of standing up and saying under no circumstances would Pacer management support the kind of conduct exhibited by some of their players the other night Larry Byrd and some other Pacer official said they and the Pacers stood behind those players! I always thought Larry Byrd was above that! Guess I was wrong!
You can make all the excuses you want for the players,or the management, and I will still say all players who went into the stands after fans should be banned from the league for life....and then be procecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

I think many of us feel the same way. Why doesn't it make any difference?

Most of these clowns would be behind bars already if it wasn't for the fact that they are 6'9, black, and very athletic, just showing them true selves.

Well Ron Artest is a sorry excuse for anything close to a human being to begin with. I hope the first guy he attacked sues him for about 200 million dollars. I think he did it on purpose so he could have that time off he requested to promote his new rap CD. Would have been nice to of seen the guy knock him smooth out.. :D

What I thought was the funniest thing about the whole deal was that Rasheed Wallace was the one trying to calm everyone down.
You know things are out of control when a former Trail Gangster is the most level headed one there.
Players that went into the stands deserve the harshest of suspensions and fines. Is time to get those sorry fans under control also. They oughta fine a fan that throws something at a player around $5,000 and a few weeks behind bars. What is gonna end up happening is they are gonna ban beer sales at games due to a few out of hand drunks. Penalize folks who want to go to the game and enjoy a brewski who dont get out of hand.

I agree, the Fans who contributed to the fiasco should also be punished. If there is a way to restrict them from attending a game then I think they should be banned from attending any sports event for at least a year.
If that is not doable, then they should be arrested for disturbing the peace and endangering the safety of others, and every other charge that could apply. At the very least they should have to attend Anger Management Training until such time as they learn appropriate behavior.
After all, what does it tell you about a person when they can't control themselves while watching a game? Sounds like they might be a ticking time bomb waiting to explode on the first innocent (or the not-so-innocent, maybe just the first ignorant loudmouth) bystander that happens along at the wrong time!!!
There is plenty of persons, Fans, Players, Coaches, Owners, Managers, who should take responsibility for the despicable actions we witnessed. Shame on them all.
I agree that athletes should do their best to control their temper and the penalties handed out are mostly fair, but I cant help thinking if a guy ups and throws a beer in my face, he deserves the whipping that's coming. I don't think someone who would throw their drink into the face a professional athlete is overly bright.

If he didn't want beer thrown in his face he should have kept his A$$ on the floor. And when did the scorers table become a Lazy Boy. Just a bunch of graemlins/censored.gif A$$ graemlins/censored.gif and should be kicked out of the league. Wonder how long they would last if they would have to work for a living. Would probably have less gold teeth and a few less white girlfriends.

I think he got what he deserves. I also think there is a couple more of them that should have gotten longer. He wasnt the only one to go in the stands. They are professional athletes they should know how to act. Professional athletes are allowed to be involved in drug deals, murder and rape without any consequences. I believe if they are involved in any criminal activity they should be banned from professional sports but instead they get bigger contracts. If i got into a fight in public, busted for selling dope or suspected of rape my @$$ would have been fired and never got my job back.

The cat that got off light was Stephen Jackson. He wasn't provoked in any way and he ended up in the stands beating on the fans. He should also have been suspended for the season.
If he didn't want beer thrown in his face he should have kept his A$$ on the floor Am not sticking up for that a-hole but do believe he had beer thrown on him before he got into the stands.
I bet if it was one on one in the street there is no way that fan would throw anything at that player. Kinda like the junior high fights started close to a teacher so it would be stopped quickly. These fans feel safe cause they know the players arent supposed to come after them. Fine em all dearly.

Guys I am not a big NBA fan or Artest fan...But if yyou throw something at me you can be assured I am coming after you.....
Not saying what they did was right and they get waaaaaaay to much money but they should be able to come into an area and feel safe.
Again this is just my opinion but what they did was exceptable to me....

rjet.... Sorry I thought it was a cup of ice that brought them into the stands. We were sitting around talking about it at work and pondered what would happen if any of us would have acted out like that after the many times we were spit at, had stuff thrown at us (even human excrement at times). If any of us had acted like that we would face a military court martial and it would cause an internatial incident. Abu Ghuraib ring any bells. Kind of an extreme but when professionalism is breeched respectability is lost. That looked more like a Tyson weigh-in than a basketball game.
dirtdart,
Isnt it ridiculous that it boils down to that? Kinda like the prisoners down there in new orleans tent city complaining about their living conditions (or any other jail/prison in this country) when our soldiers have it a lot worse off. Your comments made me remember how miniscule this NBA crap is. Thanks man, we all need a wake up call sometimes.

You put things in perspective when you realize you have so much to be thankful for. You never realize how rich we are as Americans til you come to a place like this. What these Arabs don't realize is that it wasn't handed to us. Just sit back and think how many people around the world have the US to thank for their prosperous way of life. Where would the free world be if it wasn't for the US. All they can do to re-pay us is to point fingers and accuse us of being imperialist.... Japan....France....Germany.....Canada.....Italy and all of the former Soviet Republic. They love being critical of someone they owe so much to.

You have a way of putting things into perspective I cant argue with.
It's just not fair. LOL graemlins/thumb.gif graemlins/thumb.gif
