How many of you have ever been mountain rapelling? We used to go all the time. Had our own little group. We quit after several of us got hurt. In this sport, when you get bored it's time to get out. We were just taking to many chances. My son is now wanting to give it a try.
Nothing like going over the edge for the first time.

(Tech cert/Rope ResQ)

I rapelled off of a 300 foot structure with a pick off at about 175. Had to stop every 100 feet because the rack was too hot to handle. Climbed a rope with prussets 50 feet...Passing a knot was cool. We practiced at 15 feet then we did it at 75 feet. Our instructor was a former Marine who trained snipers and special forces mountain warfare.

Did you use standard issue rappeling rope or a different kind. We always used the Bluewater II climbing rope the was very elastic. You ever do any Australian style "squirreling"? This was my favorite rush. We had one guy in our group from the 82nd airborne. He could not judge distance when doing free falls. It was pretty funny to watch, but he got banged up real good a couple of times. There is a place off of Mt. Magazine, in shoal creek narrows where we use to go all the time. There is one bluff up there that you actually feel like you are diving into hell when you go over.

Standard issue as in NFPA and OSHA standard for rope resq.

I bet you and Kerby (our instructor) would get along great! He has some video of his "fun" out in Nevada. Kerby can do just about anything with some rope. The McGyver of rappelling, per say.

Repelled off Dardanelle Rock 2 times several years ago. Scary at first, but it was fun.

Birs Dog, Did you rapell at the rock quarry there going toward the damn? They have a good trail going up to the top of it and have driven a steel stake in to tie off on. Give it a try.

I dont remember for sure, it was back in 82 while going to ATU, I took a ROTC class instead of PE. I just remember it was high on rocks, above the dam.
