I was in the Ozarks this past weekend. The acorns are falling early and there was a lot of cuttings on the ground. I am going to do my best to do some thinning of the population up there on Saturday morning. graemlins/thumb.gif

I'm a going a squirrel huntin saturday, one way or t'other. I'd sure like to find some young greys, cutting hicker nuts, some that are still dumb enough to keep cutting while I get in my practice shots!!!

Yall what have already been out looking, are they up on the ridges or down on the creeks???
maybe the heads of a hollar, mostly on hicker nuts I guess?

Now don't be bashfull,,give up the imformation!!

death of posion snakes,,,the kind and size,,AND the REPORTED accounts leading to his demise!!
This should get some imaginations in high gear!!!

I understand that there are those amoung us who cannot tell a lie,,,but I could make an exception this time. What about it?

Remington

Usually just knock em outta the tree with a rock them grab them by the tail and whack em up against a tree... graemlins/smack.gif When the wives hunt we sit em by the tree when they come down she never fires a shot and still kills a limit

Remington,,hunting early like this, do you have any trouble getting your dogs snakebit? I have a little rat terrier, he is gun shy, but always hated to take him early, afraid he'd get bit, and My mom would rather it be me got bit as him!!

If he had not been gunshy, he would have been a good little dog,,I know thats like saying if I was rich,,,I wouldn't have been poor!!!

xring
08-30-2004, 10:49 PM
Boy, you slammed the outhouse door pretty hard there Remington,,,Heck, I won't look down,,,much!

DODGEMAN

Remington
08-30-2004, 10:53 PM
I turn em out as soon as the law allows and aint had one bit yet...they runnin too much, not necessarily squirrels, but just movin all the time as to why i dont think they get bit...However me on the other hand tends to be a little skittish the early in the year... The copperheads are still out in full force and they and me aint never seen eye to eye\

xring
08-30-2004, 11:03 PM
Understood there Remington, I have a dislike for snakes also, I have violated the law more than I'd care to admit when it comes to leaving a posion snake unharmed! What part of the state is ravenden located? I looked in my atlus, but couldn't find Ravenden?? What is the terain like, I have hunted up around MountainView, and the ground is covered with golf ball sized rocks that make walking tough...

Remington
08-30-2004, 11:09 PM
in your atlas look for hardy or imboden if it shows them im right in the middle...if not follow hwy 63 outta jonesboro...approx. 45 miles outta Jonesboro is ravenden....bout 45 miles from Missouri...Terrain is hills...Rocks...Bluffs with a creek bed or two

xring
08-30-2004, 11:23 PM
Man, you a long ways from the Valley!!!!I reconized Hardy,,,coldest place in Arkansas most of the time!!! I suspect I better hunt a bit closer to home, as I'd have to leave tonight to be there opening morning!!! Slow old truck!!! And a slow old man driving it!!!

I envy you being up there with all them squirrels, I'd lose a crop if they were like that here!!!

Remington

X there ain't nothing to the posting of the pictures, I am sure MB would come by and show you how to do it. If I can do it you can, also if me and deerhunter can get a guy posting them all the way from South Carolina, I know we can get you posting them. graemlins/thumb.gif

Efan - the acorns still looked green to me but the squirrels are tearing them up. Usually they are eating hickory nuts but there are a lot of acorns on the ground already.

xring - there aren't any computers up there where I hunt so I guess I will have to let you know on Monday about the snakes and squirrels that I see this weekend. I won't be far from Remington. Where I hunt is in the middle of nowhere between Ravenden, Williford, Smithville, and Imboden.

xring
08-31-2004, 09:33 AM
Dspeakes,,,that would be refered to as Gods Country,,,Few places left in arkansas that can boast having all that!!!!

Have a good and safe hunt and I'll wait until monday if I have to!

xring - you are correct. It is God's country. I am really looking forward to being in the woods actually hunting something again. I have seen so many deer up there this year that I am really ready for Oct 1st. There are several big bucks roaming around this year.

rjet and Dodgeman - I will do my best to enjoy it enough for all of us. graemlins/thumb.gif I will enjoy the good food, squirrel hunting, scouting for deer, and the good fellowship with friends and family. We eat up there better than I do at home. :D
