Who is ready for the big celebration of kicking off the 2004 hunting season. This is how I always viewed opening day of dove season. I mean there is more "booming" going on this day than there is on the 4th July in this area. This is the only hunting I know of that you don't have to sit still and be quiet and you can hunt with a bunch of hunters cutting up and carrying on.

I have been out scouting fields and water holes. I have a couple areas already picked out for the Labor Day weekend.

I do love to dove hunt and thats how I always veiwed it to Clyde but now it opens the same day as squirrel season and you have to choose between the two on opening morning. graemlins/smack.gif

I ain't real crazy about dove hunting, but my son likes it and I wish they would just move opening day of squirrel season back a week, then I could enjoy both opening weekends?

I like dove hunting but I like squirrel hunting more so I will be in the Ozarks. I get a chance to scout for deer that way. graemlins/thumb.gif

For me its the mighty squirrel,,,Dove hunting is fun and more of a group thingy,,,Squirrels are, on the other hand, a primer for whitetails.

i like dove hunting better than squirrel hunter...one..i like dove meat better two...you get to do a lot of shooting three...its kind of a change of pace, you dont have to sit there and be patient, you can be loud and cut up

I prefer to hunt the squirrels than dove. Have seen a better crop of dove this year than in the past 10, should be fun for yall. Cant afford the shells myself. :D

Used to just outside of Pocahontas about 200 folks got together...friends, family, big wigs of local factories, big wigs in agfc, and just anybody really who knew where we were would get together on this guys farm and have a huge opening morning dove hunt...At the time i was only 10-12 yrs old and to me them mornings were my first ever memories of being afield with dad and enjoying it... Cases of shells would be shot and doves were killed in piles...Bout 10 or so in the mornin when the shooting calmed down we all went to a big oak tree in the middle of the place , named the tree "the reload tree" and townsend chicken company would donate like 40 lbs. of breast filets and dad and about 10 others would fire up a big grill and cook chicken and dove, and all the trimmings .... man them were some fine mornings...Gosh i miss it...they quit doin it a few years back and aint been dove hunting since...But i do miss it, think mainly just the fellowship but the food was good too

Sounds like fun remington, hate to see a tradition like that come to pass. Am afraid that is a sign of the times to come. And believe me pocohantas Ar is as rural as it gets. When we see those type of communities lose it we are all at a loss.

BTW:
Yall grow some big-uns out there, had to whoop a boy from your town once was twice my size, wasnt fun. :D
