I know Quail are scarce in AR but what breeds do most hunters on here use? I am partial to shorthairs. I even enjoy watching them hunt songbirds around the house. I would like to see some pictures also if anyone has some.

Bird Dog, I hunt two Brittanys. They are easy to handle and their range is good for the places and cover I hunt in.

I also admire the Brittanys. I have been debating weather or not to add a 3rd shorthair, or a brittany or an English Springer to my kennal. I like English setters, but the long hair is a pain.

Can anybody tell me something about Lewellen Setters? Got a man that wants to give me one. Said that he paid $600.00 for it as a pup. It's now 18 months old. Said that he can't train it.
Any info will help or if someone wants this dog, let me know. It does have all papers.
Thanks, Pat.

lewellen setters
I heard once that only 1 out of every 1,000 make a good dog and the others are not worth the shell to shoot them.

After looking over his website, I figured out about the same. I told them that I didn't want the dog. I would take some quail meat though! :D

In years gone by, I have hunted behind a few that were bird dogs, I never owned one however, I hunted pointers,My position on setters in general was that I had just about as soon still hunt quail as hunt with a setter....I do know of a few exceptional setters however. :D

Hey I've been looking into getting a bird dog here lately and had just about decided on a german short hair, but was also considering brittany's or a llewellyn (so I might be interested in the freebee). Any info you guys could provide would be hot. Also where are some good places to hunt, I'd be willing to travel up to an hour or so but I have kenfolk all over the state.

Hey XRing, did you ever know Mr. Housley that lived at Rover? He had a Setter out of Na. Ch. Dave Cooley Crockett, that was pure joy to watch work. Had a good high tail, that flickered like a candle flame when he moved.
