Snipe Hunting

Any of you ever go snipe hunting? I use to hunt them every winter on our farm. We had quite a few acres of wetland that held a lot of these birds. Had a neighbor whose dog would point them, but I usually just walked them up. They would usually just fly a couple hundred yards and regroup. Pgooch, I've taken a number of them while quail hunting, but never actually hunted them. My bird dogs would point them just like quail.

The thing that I liked about snipe hunting, was the fast way they would get up and their crazy flight pattern. They were just plain fun to shoot! I hunted them for years and didn't even realize that there was a season on them. graemlins/thumb.gif

You got that right(crazy flight) we always encountered them in tight cover, wet areas, and you really had to be quick to even mount and fire. My hit ratio on them was dismal at best!

Been once and guided quite a few times, we always used a trash bag and flashlight though.

I was always told to use a brown paper bag.Ha
No one ever belives me, when i tell them that my dogs have pointed snipe(woodcock) in the past.
BTW, xring tell me about you dogs? How many? What breed? I'm a GSP kinda guy.

i agree. When I first started this topic, I was sure we would find some die hard snipe hunters out there.

Only snipe hunting that I ever did was with a burlap sack and a flashlight. :D

Bird dog, its like the rest of me, I used to have, pointers,,I used to have,,,wives,,,I used to have friends,,,BUT it got to where I couldn't keep up with any of them, sold the dogs,,divorced the wives,,but I still have the friends, both of them...xring :D

Well bull you being from up here in NEA to get "QS" you are crap out of luck. Quality around this area is illegal. :( :(
