My son and I hunt with identical 17HMR Marlin 17VS rifles. Head shots, DRT!! I haven't used a shotgun on squirrels in years and years.

Nice loking rifle. Where was this pic taken, the background looks familiar. Looks like a place south of lake Poinsett where I used to deer hunt.
.460 weatherby, you don't shoot the squirrel just the limbs out from underneath them let the fall kill the squirrel. No honestly .22 cal and have been for probably 20 years and have not used a shotgun since.

It dosn't matter which gun you take, it is always the wrong one. I use a Ruger standard model long barrel .22 auto pistol with micro sights, carry a Beretta 12 ga. O/U, or a Winchester model 12 in 20 ga. with #4 shot for the long range runners. When I carry a rifle it is a C.Z. 452 American with a 4-16 scope.

Hey I'm open for dinner most every night of the week. graemlins/thumb.gif
Hey Mr Chilton looks like you done pretty good in my stomping grounds. Just wish you had three more to that mess. Deer hunting out there I usually see 20 to 30 squirrels everytime especially in the morning hunts. You didn't see any deer did ya. The area around Whisky ditch are loaded with them because that area is pretty much nothing but oak trees up that way.
The south woods just north of Mallard Lake has a nice oak grove in the middle of it. Very few hunters venture back into that area. We have several times before went in their and each of us take a limit in a morning. I once went in there and took 8 squirrels with a .22 and never moved from one spot in less than 5 minutes.

When I have time to go (between the deer and the coon), seems like when I carry a shotgun, they are all sitting up, and when I carry a .22, they are feeding on the ground or running 90 mph...
Mr. Chitlin, that sure looks mighty fine. I haven't had a good mess of squirrel cooked right (I hope my wife don't read this) since my Grandpa passed away. I sure do miss him, now that I mention it...
