Anyone got tips for killing more crows.I've discovered it can be a lot of fun, especially when the ducks aren't cooperating.

Sneek up on them and be very very quite and Boom!!
Joking aside them suckers are a pain in the butt! For years I blasted them with a 12 gauge but that became to damn hard, so now I went and bought that .17HMR and I dont have to quit as close :D
I also have several hand calls and have done some good with them, I still can. I found out on accident my best handcall was a sceery AP-2 I think, them crows dive bomb and circle my head and are going nuts over that call. I need 2-3 buddys when using this call to clean them out or actually protect myself.
I dont know if this is cheating but if you can find out where they roost at about 1 hour before sunset or more then sit under there tree or 20-30 yds back under some good cover and you wearing all kinds of camo and face net then let them have it when they all get done landing!

I forgot to put this.

Don't sound like cheating to me............sounds like a good way to get rid of them......
If we could just do water turkeys that way.......
I have a buddy with a electronic caller, we use a
crow/owl fight tape. It works great for about 15 minutes then you need to move a half mile or so and do it again.

If you are going to set up in the woods, which I prefer; look for a dead tree or old snag and set up under it. Hide in the surrounding cover and let 'em have it when they come into the clear!!
I'm not opposed to hunting them in fields, but when I do.. I leave the e-caller off and set-up some home-made dekes and call with a mouth caller. Otherwise they come over too high to shoot and get an education that they don't need!!!
I had always thought of them as squirrel and turkey predators... I guess 'cause I live in Arkansas; and this alone was reason enough for me to want to hunt them. But after reading about the duck predation they inflict annually, I have a new commitment to hunting crows!!

Just curious. When killing crows can you leave them there? or whats the requirements. I know where at least 50 crows perch every evening in holland bottoms and they get on my nerves I'm ready to slay them.

calling is fun. biggest one time massacre i ever had was over bait. took all the deer carcasses from camp and thre em down in a quarry. came back 2 days later with 3 guys no plugs in the shotguns, tiptoed up to the edge of that quarry and proceeded to make it rain crows! be careful though as there was one crow in there that had a white head!! also heard that if you put a cat in abirdcage and hang the cage in a tree, then start callin!

Well I do know you cant hunt crow over bait so that would be to risky on Holland Bottoms hehe. Sounds like you had fun though. I cant stand crows lol.

Best luck I have had to wounding one and letting it scream its arse off. The others will come in like crazy. You had better have the best cammo youve got on because they will bust you better than any deer ever dreamed of. Decoys work pretty good too.

Get one with a broken wing, tie a string to its leg and tie the string to a tree limb. He'll hang there flapping that good wing and his brothers will come to the rescue. :thumb:

crow hunting is a blast... as mentioned the crow/owl fight tape works well...crow's have excellent ability to see so good camo is a must, gloves, face mask and all or u will be busted out. I prefer hunting in the woods cause the crows will fly in real low..when hunting fields they just tend to stay a lot higher.. they can also be called in with a couple people on mouth calls hammering down. There are crows just about every where so set up and call for 20-30 seconds then shut up and listen..if they are near by u will hear them calling back as they are flying to u...if you hear crows get back on the calling and dont stop til u are shooting...as soon as u stop shooting hammer down on the calling again..at times they will come in a time or two. If you don't hear them after the first 20-30 seconds of calling pick another spot. If they can hear you they usually will come. Crow hunting can be a lot of action. The taste better than duck..try em'

There are a lot of ways to hunt crows. The best crow hunts I know of use to be at Ft Cobb, Oklahoma, where the crows feed on peanuts left in the fields. It was not uncommon to get 100 kills or more. I think the best technique is to hunt the flyways to the roosts in the late afternoon. An owl decoy and a few crow decoy's with some good calling (electric or regular call) would really bring them in for wing shooting. Also hunted them with a .22mag. in fields where they fed on harvested corn. Our favorite stand was on a bluff overlooking a corn field. Shots were often 150 yards. I really enjoyed the crow hunts as I grew up in Oklahoma. Gosh! that was only 40 years ago. :thumb:

Water turkeys are our friends. Find where they are roosting on the lakes. Fish there with trotlines or jugs baited with cut shad and come back the next morning and load up your catfish.
