SNAKEHUNTER

When I was about 8 years old I was out with my dad and the usual croud of hunters. It was friday night and this is just what we did on a friday night. I grew up with these people and I will never forget them. My dad, uncle John, cousin Jerry Mack, and Mr. Brown. Can't forget the dogs either. There was Paco and Lady (our dogs)Rowdy,
Stew, Bones, Railhead, and a host of others I can't recall at this time. We let the dogs out and they hit a trail in about 2 minutes. We listened and they treed what seemed about 100 yards away. We got to the tree and it was a tall cottonwood. We rounded up the dogs and one was missing. Bones was gone. Looking up in the tree we spotted the coon way out on a limb. Bones was out on the limb about as far as he could go 30 feet off the ground. We had each of the dogs on a leash. (I was 8 years old and not very big) My dad hands me both leashes and said,"Whatever you do, don't let go of the dogs." He climbed up the tree and lowered Bones down on a rope and then proceeds to punch out the coon. That coon hit the ground about 10 feet in front of me and the dogs. I kept up for the first 100 feet, after that I was just along for the ride. I couldn't hear but my dad was yelling, "Let go of the dogs!" They did tree again after about 100 yards later. Everone caught up and had a good laugh, although I failed to see the humor at the time. The skin eventually grew back on my face. The next friday we were back in the woods.
