Went to my place in the ozarks this weekend to do a little scouting and R & R . Decided to do a little fishing on bear creek sat. evening and caught several good small mouth. I took 2 of the larger ones back to the cabin and grilled them for supper. Man they were good. The fish were bitting very well, caught one on almost every cast. They averaged around 14 to 16 inches. I also seen a herd of about 25 elk and 4 deer. What a great weekend.

I go to the Buffalo river every year and if we catch a keeper we melt some butter in a pan and cook up the fillets and top with salt and pepper. Now that's good eatin

There is no better eating than a hudge bass from a tournament lake.:smack:
No even those stink! But I do enjoy showing them off to the tourament guys. Then giving to to some old people who do eat them. But I release all smallmouths in the river here. They can be fished out in a small stream.:frown:

That's exactly right. I love to eat some fish, but I'm careful with smallmouths. They arent stocked all the time like our lake fish. Plus, there's just more and more pressure on our rivers every year.

Is that the bear creek that flows into the Buffalo River?
I have eaten a few smallmouth (very good!), but generally I C&R them- I have a lot of respect for them- they are about my favorite fish to catch.

Battman, yes that is the bear creek that flows into the Buffalo river. I feel the same as you do about the smallies, Lots of fun to catch. I think it is the places that you catch them that makes it so great.
