I'm going to fish the White up at Calico Rock this weekend. I go up there at least 10 times a year and always just drift fish for mainly Rainbows using power bait etc. This time, I'd like to try to go for some Browns. I've used a countdown rapala with a little success. Do you have any advice for going for the Browns this time of year?

Fish after dark. I like a nightcrawler rig thats injected with air. Fish near a deep pool with some woody cover(large trees or stumps)

Hi i have cought a bunch of browns on Countdowns. What size and color was you useing. I dont use the Silver min. one. Fish them right before dark and little after dark and early of the mor's . A very GOOD brown bait is a sculpins:thumb: VM
PS use the countdowns like a jerkbait is the best.

I went for browns about a month ago on the little red for the first time. I knew they loved crawdads so that's what I went with. I used about a 3 in. long, medium diving craw with the rattles in it. We marked a few good weed beds before dark and hit them around 9 at night. I caught a number of browns from 18-21 inches in a couple of hours. My bro in law was using a similar sized craw without the rattles and had less luck then I did. I just made a large number of casts in every direction and did a steady retrieve back to the boat. Those browns just killed that thing!!! Good luck!

If you want to go after some good browns bait fish with sculpins. I have fish with crawdad's ( live and a crankbait) and cought mostly rainbows and small brown's on White River. One of the best countdowns is a # 11 in a rainbow. But dont throw it out and just reel it back in. Throw it out and jerk it along like a hurt trout late and after dark. And the countdown will work for you. VM

The best way to fish the countdown is to start going the way the water is and and throw in front of you. And jerk it a long as it is hurt. Dont throw up river throw going with the way the water is going. I have cought some good browns this way above Calico Rock.. Hope this helps VM

try using a using a white crappie jig. works well in clearer water right up against the bank. also can catch some smallmouth on these if you are lucky.
about a month ago i caught a 25 inch brown using this method.
