Good golly....ya know...in the bible, there's a story how Jonah tried to take a slight detour, and got swallowed by a big fish. Now...some folks have said it was a whale, some said it was a really big crappie[NOT] but I can now safely surmize: it might'a been a catfish!!~John

At a pound a year....it'd be 70 years...but that fish had to come into contact with nuclear waste or somethin.....dawg what a monster! I bet if you'd have donated it to AGFC...not only would they have given you an accurate age, but a whole lotta other data...plus, you never know, they mighta mounted it for ya and put it in the AGFC museum with the fisherman's name onit!!~John

John ,Flatheads grow alot more that a pound a year. That's a biggun , but no record. Biggest I've caught ever on a rod was 60 lbs. Fish grow they're whole lives if they get plenty to eat. The Sayers caught a 139 lber on a snagline below David D Terry Lock and Dam years ago. The Arkansas sportfishing record of 80 lbs was caught at Ozark. Below the dam there on the Arkansas River. That's one fish to be proud of , most will never get the chance to catch one over 40lbs. Tell yor brother congratulations on a fine once in a lifetime catch.:thumb:

That is an awesome fish. I caught a 40 and a 43#er on light tackle on our lake here at work about 6 years ago. I thought they were big. That 70#er is huge.

Damn, I grew up fishing the St. Francis. I've caught some impressive cats there but nothing of that caliber. I like fishing @ Parkin, Cody, and Burnt Cane (Round Pond). What section of river did he catch the beast?
