My buddy and I are going to Bull Shoals the week of 9/10 and plan to do some fishing. We're not particular about what we catch, we just want to catch some fish. Any tips for catching catfish, bass, crappie, trout, walleye etc. including locations and best baits?

Also, we're considering staying at http://www.bullshoalslakeresort.com/index.htm, anyone have any experience with this resort? Any other recommendations for cabin or resort rentals? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated! :thumb:

I used to fish Bull Shoals quite a bit, I usually fished out of Lead Hill and stayed at a little Mom and Pop motel on top of the hill on the left just before you get to the park. Clean rooms, reasonable rates. I used to love night fishing Bull in the hot months of the summer, a black jitterbug with a slow but continous retreve worked well, as did a black spinnerbait with a large colorado blade. Good luck!

270 you should be able to get into some schooling fish as well,,zarapuppys, bowhowdys, roostertails, lil georges, even throw you a rattletrap under the schools for the bigger lazy ones waiting on the young ones to do there thing and catch what falls down:cool:I love that schooling action fast and furious and you never know what you are going to get!!!

Buba and X....I'm assuming ya'll are talking about bass fishin'. But we'll be renting a boat, so I doubt we'll have any electronics to help locate the schools. Either of you ever tried trout fishing below the dam or catfishing the lake?

If you fish at night use a black Pig & Jig on the chunk rock banks near the dam going down to 35 ft. Take a first aid kit because those Smallmouth bass are apt to dislocate a sholder or break an arm. :thumb:

What's exciting about fish'n a big muskie jitterbug at night is when 2 or 3 of you are doing it at the same time, and one of you gets a loud strike on top and all three jerk, man them jitterbugs fly'n at you in the dark really make things interesting.

We have always had good luck jug fishing for catfish but that was a few years ago. We would put them out late in the afternoon and check them early in the morning.:thumb:

14 lb test line and an "ole ugly" (OD green) jig and brown pig. You can carry all that in a Wal-Mart poke and not have to clutter your boat up with all that other stuff.

270 Win you dont need any electronics, just watch for some surface action early and late, once you find some start casting, you can catch, kentuckies,Largemouth, whites ect!! Heck I never use my electronics much anyway, if them fish are that deep I aint fishing for em!

Thanks to everyone for the tips! You fellers are getting me pumped! In all my 42 years I've never caught a smallmouth....but hopefully that will change. Also, I've only caught one little 12" trout in my life and want to change that stat too.....give me some trout fishin' tips! :thumb:

ALSO, my buddy wants some catfishing info for this lake....day or night...jugs or poles....what kind of bait....you get the idea. He's drivin' 6+ hours from northeast Missouri, so I want him to have a good time too.

I like fishing the pumpkin seed hula grub for the smallmouth. My counis gudie's on Bull S and he uses a suspending Rogue at night for stripers. And one of the best color worms for large M. is a red worm with gold flakes or if you cant find them silver flakes will work. Jugs baited with live small bream will work good. good luck. VM

PS get on White River and fish it and you can catch some smallmouth it is full of them.

How do you fish that rig for smallmouth bass? Jigging? Slow Retrieve? More info please....sounds like something I'd like to try when we get up there.

Drag the jig vs hopping it. think like a crawdad.
