We finally got some overdue rain and it fell slowly which was also good. I have been broke out with poison Ivy, but with this rain, I had to get back into the heavley infested, ivy filled woods with a camera. This first waterfall is not listed in Tim Earnst's book of AR Waterfalls, but it should have been.

Though some creeks in the area were floatable, this one was a little low for my canoe, but still good enough for a snapshot.

Same creek farther upstream.

If anyone has info or pics of waterfalls in central AR, please let me know about them?

And GPS cordinates if possible.

Bird Dog you take some good pictures. I'm sure you are aware of Ernst's book on waterfalls. I'm more familiar with those around the Caney Creek Wilderness and WMA.

On a different note, I was hunting near USFS 805 east of Flatside Pinnacle and some folks came by looking for a waterfall which I guess would be on or near Little Brown Creek. They said it was right next to a campsite on 805 a few miles west of where the Ouachita Trail crosses 805 such as when you are going from Lake Sylvia to Flatside. Any idea where this waterfall would be or what it is called?

Have not been to that one yet. It is called Browns creek falls, if I remember correctly from the book. Have a hike scheduled in that area, Thur. Hope it is still flowing then.Earlier this month I posted pics of small water falls west of Flatside Pinnacle, two miles from the Flatside trailhead.

I was in that area on a 9 mile hike ,Thur. Having misplaced my waterfall book, I was unable to locate the waterfall on Browns creek. That evening after another search, I finally located the book and realized I was very close to the Browns creek waterfall. Here is info from Tim Earnest's book.

Which bridge are you referring to? If memory serves me right there are 3 low water bridges on USFS 805. I'm still a little unclear regarding Ernst's description as to where the Brown Creek falls are located--sounds to me like it's going to be a couple miles west of where the Ouachita Trail crosses USFS 805 (there's a wooden footbridge where the trail crosses the creek here). Close to that point, they have a log sleeping shelter complete with diary or log where people stay and leave a record of their stay there--about a mile or so after you cross 805 like you are hiking up to Flatside.

Where is that bridge located??

IFyou are talking about the steel bridge, it is in Perry Co, across Fourche River, just south of the community of Nimrod, called "Wallace Bridge"

I think this is the location of the waterfall,on FS 805, for what its worth. Waterfall location highlighted in pink, Ouachita Trail in yellow. The pink circle is about 2 miles west of where the Ouachita Trail crosses 805, the second time.

We did not see any log shelters between Flatside and Sylvia on the Thur hike, but this one is located between Lake Sylvia and Hwy 9.

I'm familiar with the area you've highlighted re Brown Creek Falls and I went back and forth that road trace hunting this past season--the trace basically follows the creek--but I did not see the falls. I'll go back in there and look next time I'm there--it would be about 2 miles west of the low water bridge near where the Ouachita Trail crosses 805 and there is a campsite on the left (South) side of the road where the trace begins.

On the shelter it is about 1 mile or so North of 805 on the trail although the trail does not go right by it but it should be close enough to notice--have to doublecheck that one too.

It was raining and bad foggy last Thur, so that must be why we did not see any shelters, especially if it is a distance off the main trail, as some are.

Here are the GPS cordinates for the falls, which I will be sure to take next time. I did NOT have my GPS with me because I assumed (we know what assume stands for) that the falls would be on the O.T.

Lat/Lon 3451.92N, 9253.353 W

Maybe someone that has maping software/web access can post a map from these cordinates?
Please?
I think I have about worn out my Topo maps. If I were not on dial up I would try it from topo.com my self.
