Skid Mark Hill Cache
Here is the log entry:
Cache Logs
March 11 by mountainborn (263 found)
As usual, Butcherknife was driving and I was navigating when we arrived at the bottom. Since the truck hadn't started up the hill yet, we couldn't see the top through the windowshield.
It looked like a verticle wall ! Steep ? Yeh, it was steep !
It was also washed out and rutted.
As the magellan arrival alarm went off, Butcherknife pulled the transfer case into low range four wheel drive and gassed it.
A small hump made the front end light enough that she had trouble steering into the slight turn on the way up. That is when my head bounced off of the roof of the truck cab.
Quickly she shifted into first gear and gassed it again, with all four wheels scratching for traction, we made it to the top.
This is a great cache, but if ya' ain't a hard core 4X4 enthusiast, walk the last 150 to 200 feet to the cache.
Beautiful view with brushy creek down below.
This is steep enough that once you are committed to the climb, you will not be able to stop, you will immediately start to slide backwards.
Coming back down is likely to be more exciting than the climb up.
Thanks 12bullfrog for the great 4X4 cache !
