ok, so my buddy and i were watching cops the other day and we saw a cop driving around in the back of a pickup truck shootin 20 lb rats. (they were called nutria)we thought that looked like a good time but we cant seem to find out where to hunt 'em. Lookin on the net told us that we might be able to hunt them in Arkansas. Any advice/suggestions?

I don't think thats a very good idea in Arkansas, I suspect the local AG&F enforcement officer would impound your truck, your guns, and you! You might post it in the "Ask the commissioners" forum, for a absolute answer!

By the way, welcome to the board, thanks for posting, enjoy!

To go nutria hunting all you have to do is find a swamp in south Arkansas. I have killed a number of them with different firearms. Shot one while on a duck hunt in a beaver pond. Steel shot will take them out. The only time I tried to kill one with a bow I missed. :frown: My arrow and that Bear Razorhead are probably still stuck in that tree on the Little Missouri River.

You would have to purchase a nonresident hunting license and if hunting on a WMA would probably have to purchase a WMA permit for that WMA. Go to www.agfc.com for more info on regulations and areas to hunt.

ABL131.....what you need to do man, is go on down to south Louisiana " thats the bottom part" and look up one of them Cajuns, they will put you on-um. My wife is from there, and she said her dad used to trap-um and eat-um. Taste just like wet chicken.

Welcome to the site.
We have a few in central Arkansas, but not near the numbers LA has. They are in low lands. I have several by my house. I have seen as many as 5 or 6 by the side of the road. This is in the city limits and you can not hunt there. I have wanted to shot one with my bow several times. I am not sure about the numbers in South Arkansas.

Where in Yell Co do you see Nutria? I hunt , fish , and trap a lot and never have seen one. I have seen all kinds of other water type mammals. Muskrats , Otters , Coons , Beavers , minks , and such. Are they on or near the Arkansas river by chance?
